Qdos has launched a new cyber liability insurance product designed to help self-employed professionals protect themselves against the growing threat of digital and cyber incidents.
As businesses increasingly rely on digital technologies, cloud-based systems, online payments and artificial intelligence, exposure to cyber risks continues to rise.
From phishing and data breaches to financial crime and system outages, a cyber incident can quickly become costly and disruptive. Recent figures underline the scale of the challenge. According to the UK Government's Cyber Security Breaches Survey 2025/26, 43% of businesses surveyed identified a cyber security breach or attack during the 12 months prior to the survey. If this figure was extrapolated across the UK business landscape, it would equate to approximately 612,000 businesses.
Qdos' new cyber liability insurance policy has been developed to help businesses respond quickly and effectively when cyber incidents occur, while also providing protection against the financial consequences that can follow.
The policy includes both first-party and third-party cyber liability cover, helping businesses manage their own losses following a cyber incident while also protecting against claims made by third parties.
In addition to financial protection, policyholders will have access to a 24/7 cyber incident hotline and specialist incident response services supported by IT, legal and public relations experts.
The policy also includes proactive cyber risk management tools, including Active Domain Monitoring, which helps identify potential vulnerabilities and malicious activity, and access to the CyberNet portal, providing cyber security guidance, threat intelligence and training resources.
While many people associate cyber-attacks with large organisations, smaller businesses and self-employed professionals should equally be mindful of cyber threats.
A successful cyber-attack can prevent a business from accessing critical systems, disrupt client work, expose confidential information and create costly legal and regulatory issues. As a result, cyber insurance is becoming an increasingly important part of a business's risk management strategy.
Director – Direct Insurance at Qdos, Elliot Fox, said:
“Cyber threats don’t discriminate by business size. Contractors, consultants and small business owners increasingly rely on technology to run their businesses, communicate with clients and handle sensitive information, but many still underestimate their exposure to cyber risk.
“It only takes one phishing email, ransomware attack or data breach to cause significant financial loss and disruption. Our new cyber liability insurance is designed to give businesses greater confidence, combining financial protection with access to specialist support to help them respond and recover when a cyber incident occurs.”
